The man who plunged 100ft to his death at London’s Tate Modern gallery in front of horrified onlookers was a senior HSBC banker, it was revealed Monday.

The Daily Mail reports that Michael Foreman, 48, was reported missing the day before he fell from a private members' balcony on the fifth floor of the gallery just before 6pm last Tuesday evening.

A spokesperson for HSBC said: 'Our thoughts are with his wife, Janet, and his family at this very sad time'.

The Guardian reports that witnesses described their horror at seeing him fall to his death from the balcony. A Tate Modern spokeswoman said: 'Our deepest sympathies go to his family. The police are investigating the incident'.

Foreman's funeral is due to take place at Corbets Tey crematorium in Upminster, Essex, on Friday.
