The Manchester Evening News has claimed Robin van Persie is set to fly into Manchester tonight to seal a move to Old Trafford.
If it happens, a blistering strike partnership with Wayne Rooney beckons, but we have our doubts over the veracity of the report.
Our theory is that this is likely agent talk, before a big U-turn declaration that van Persie will stay at Arsenal.
Do you remember one month ago, when a 'trusted' Russian journalist claimed Roberto Mancini had agreed a five-year deal to take the Russia manager's job?
Less than 24 hours later he had put pen to paper on a new five year deal to stay at the Etihad, ending all speculation.
Often in the last throes of contract negotiations, snippets of false information are fed to the press by agents to ramp up pressure on the club, and create a huge feelgood factor when the star does re-commit.
All we can do at this point is speculate, much like the Manchester Evening News in fact, but our theory is that this 'Van Persie to United tonight' rumour is little more than sabre-rattling before he re-commits to Arsenal before the week is out.
What do you think? Will Van Persie re-sign? Or is the United move very much on?
