Robin van Persie is without doubt a great player and his goals last season made him top scorer in the Premier League. At 29 he is in the prime of his career, an asset to any team.
I don’t think the problem is money; the problem is silverware or rather lack of it. Just a few weeks ago it seemed the Dutchman was heading to Manchester City so what stopped him signing for them?
I think one answer could well be he wants to see what business Arsenal do before the transfer market closes.
It can only help the club to keep hold of their most prized asset that he can see their buying players and decent ones at that.
Santi Cazorla is a world class midfielder and is a real coup for the North London club. It’s a statement ‘of intent’ and I’m sure RVP must be impressed.
Cazorla is on top of signing Lukas Podolski, and Olivier Giroud and you have to think that Arsenal will really mean business this season.
The only thing about the new signings is none have played in the Premier League before; it’s like no other league in the world. It’s simply the best but I’m sure Arsene Wenger knows what he’s doing.
I personally think that RVP will show some loyalty to the Gunners; he’s had his fair share of injuries in his Arsenal career.
He is now a complete player and I hope for football’s sake his injuries are behind him. Now the other question is; should Arsenal sell him?
He only has a year left on his contract and can walk away from the club next season and they’ll get no fee what so ever. Is that a risk worth taking for Champions League football or trying to win the league?
With the signings Arsenal have made I’m sure it’s a statement of intent and one to show RVP they mean business.
I fear if the new signings don’t work out then RVP won’t be the only one leaving the Emirates; Arsene may move upstairs or simply retire.
Maybe the new signings will help with silverware and convince the Dutchman to sign on for the rest of his career?
With just 21 days left of the transfer window it will be interesting to see the colour of the shirt that RVP wears at the beginning of the season; and will it be the same at the end?
