Manchester United have 'agreed a deal' for the transfer of Robin van Persie from Arsenal, the club have announced on their official website. The move is still subject to a medical and personal terms, and is expected to be completed within 48 hours.
Another player seemingly on his way out at The Emirates is midfielder Alex Song; according to The Independent. The provider of many of Van Persie’s more memorable goals last season is expected to sign before the start of La Liga this weekend in a deal worth £15million. Barcelona’s vice president Josep Bartomeu was in London last night for talks and is confident Song will become Barca’s second summer signing after Jordi Alba joined from Valencia.
With Song’s departure reportedly imminent news of Jean Makoun’s transfer to Rennes comes as music to Wenger’s ears as it makes a potential deal for French international midfielder Yann M’Vila incredibly more likely claims The Daily Mail. Arsene Wenger has previously denied interest in the 22 year old but that was before such strong interest in his current star midfield maestro. M’Vila would cost around £17million and with Van Persie and Song deals imminent Arsenal should have no problem finding the cash; the only issue will be fending off interest from Spurs for the holding midfielder.
Aaron Ramsey has today revealed he would be happy to put aside his differences with Ryan Shawcross if the Stoke City defender was called in to the Wales team. Welsh captain Ramsey suffered a horrific leg break in 2010 as a result of a tackle from the former Manchester United trainee, who is being considered by Chris Coleman for future Wales selection. Shawcross qualifies on education criteria but has previously stated he would not play for Wales, report Eurosport.com.
After looking like missing out on M’Baye Niang to Everton already this week it now seems Arsenal target Kevin Mirallas is also on his way to Goodison rather than The Emirates. BBC Sport understands the Belgian starlet, who can operate in many attacking positions, is believed to be on the verge of a deal to Everton believed to be worth £5.3million. After Arsenal and Liverpool have previously stalled on the price tag Everton have gone in quickly with a deal using the money raised from the sale of Jack Rodwell and seem to have usurped their financially stronger rivals.
Finally former Arsenal player Fabrice Muamba retired from football today 5 months after suffering a cardiac arrest during an FA Cup tie with Spurs. The 24 year old was ‘technically dead’ for over an hour during the incident and has taken medical advice to quit the sport. Fabrice started his career as a Gunner before moving on to Birmingham in 2007 and was currently a Bolton Wanderer player at the time of his untimely retirement.
And finally on Here Is The City today we take a look at Alex Hleb's frankly woeful career since leaving Arsenal. He is now at his sixth club in four years, and it is certainly food for thought for Robin van Persie and Alex Song.
