Chelsea latest: Including McEachran and Cavani

A round-up of news and gossip relating to Chelsea over the past 24 hours.

19-year-old midfielder Josh McEachran has today joined Championship side Middlesbrough on a season-long loan deal. McEachran was on loan at Swansea for the latter half of last season but only made two starts and his development is deemed to have somewhat stagnated. The midfielder will hope a move to the Championship will see him recommence his progress.

According to the Daily Star, Chelsea will re-enter talks with Napoli over Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani. The Naples club value the 25-year-old at £40m and having already sold Ezeqiuel Lavezzi to PSG the club will not want to part ways with Cavani. Cavani himself stated last month that he would not be leaving Napoli this summer although Chelsea still remain interested with Roberto Di Matteo acknowledging that the club are ‘light’ in numbers in the striking department.

Chelsea, along with Manchester City and Arsenal, are interested in Newcastle midfielder Cheick Tiote. The 26-year-old has been impressive since his £3.5m move in 2010 from FC Twente but Newcastle are bracing themselves for bids from these top clubs. Newcastle value the player at £20m but Tiote is now at the centre of a tug-of-war between the three clubs.

Eden Hazard downplayed his performance against Wigan despite conjuring two assists in the match. Roberto Di Matteo described Hazard as a ‘pleasure to watch’ but the attacker conceded that he played a lesser part in the second-half following an explosive first ten minutes. Hazard also stated that he was unconcerned by the robust tackles aimed at him in the Wigan game. "I was kicked quite a bit in the first half against Wigan but, in France, it was already like that for me. I wasn't aware I was the most fouled player in the match, I wasn't counting them,” Hazard said after the match.

Branislav Ivanovic believes Chelsea must develop a consistency in the league this season that evaded them last term. Chelsea, despite two cup wins, only finished 6th in the league and Ivanovic warns that the team must take matters game by game to realise their ambitions for this season.

Frank Lampard claimed that after the two early goals against Wigan, Chelsea were always going to win the game. Lampard also praised Eden Hazard following his man of the match performance and believes the Belgian is the sort of player Chelsea fans have missed in years past. Lampard lauded Hazard for making an early impact at Chelsea suggesting young players often struggle in the Premier League.

Chelsea fans gave an early welcome to Victor Moses in Sunday’s game against Wigan by chanting ‘We’ll see you next week’. The winger stood out as one of Wigan’s better performers and a deal for the 21-year-old could be tied up this week if Chelsea meet Wigan’s £9m valuation of the player.
