Liverpool latest: Including Skrtel and Spearing

Agger And Skrtel

All the Liverpool news and gossip you need to know from the last 24 hours.

Liverpool's official website have today confirmed that centre-back Martin Skrtel has commited his future to the club by signing a long-term deal. This will be something to cheer up the fans after their opening day defeat to West Bromich Albion. Skrtel was voted Liverpool's Player of the Season for the last campaign.

Sky Sports have reported that Bolton Wanderers want midfielder Jay Spearing. Spearing was not included in Brendan Rodgers' 18-man squad for the defeat to West Brom on Saturday and maybe a season-long loan could be just what the defensive midfielder needs.

Liverpool will not be appealing Daniel Agger's red card he received at the Hawthorns at the weekend as reported in the Liverpool Echo. He will now miss the game against Manchester City but will be back to face Arsenal on the September 2nd. Rodgers had said the club would look into the possibility of appealing the decision.

Whilst Agger himself has insisted that he didn't touch Shane Long, the Daily Mail writes. Have the club done the right thing here?

Former player, Gary McAliister has told BBC Sport that Liverpool must not rely on striker Luis Suarez for goals and the team must become more ruthless in front of goal or face yet another season nowhere near fourth. Do Liverpool fans agree?

The Mirror explain how club captain Steven Gerrard has said that he expects the Reds to bounce back from their disastrous start and has said there is a long way to go and no need to panic.

Finally, Here is the City writer Dan Coombs discusses how Saturday's defeat to WBA could end up being a good thing. It will be interesting to see what Liverpool fans make of this positive outlook.
