The Global Livability Survey 2012

posted: 10 months ago

Australian Signs

There are several surveys that rank the most livable cities in the world. Recently, the Economist Intelligence Unit released theirs. Apparently we should all just quit and move to Canada or Australia.

Six of the top seven cities are in those two countries. Without further ado, here's the top 10:

  1. Melbourne, Australia
  2. Vienna, Austria
  3. Vancouver, Canada
  4. Toronto, Canada
  5. Calgary, Canada
  6. Adelaide, Australia
  7. Sydney, Australia
  8. Helsinki, Finland
  9. Perth, Australia
  10. Auckland, New Zealand

In case you're interested, London is 51 on the list, and the least livable cities are Lagos (138), Port Morseby (139) and Dhaka (140).

Five of the Best

Things we love, things we want, things we want to do, and things we think are just cool, interesting, or at least noteworthy.

  1. Here's a good rule to live by: If you have to ask yourself if something is OK to do, it's probably not.
  2. Classical sculptures with clothes on. They're hip and they're way cooler than us.
  3. All hail, Stevie Nicks! If you like her, you'll want to read this. (And come on, who doesn't like her?)
  4. Take a trip down memory lane, checking out the Withnail & I: The End photography exhibition from Proud Camden, which begins late June.
  5. We can't warm up to the idea that the International Herald Tribune will be renamed the International New York Times this autumn.
