'I will say, as a die hard Chelsea fan, that there are similarities between Fernando Torres and Wayne Rooney - take for example the work rate for their teams and their contributions to goals that they do not actually score themselves.
Both Torres and Rooney work extremely hard, have great positional sense and indirectly act as providers for far more than just their own tally of goals. I seem to remember Manchester United relying on Ronney to play an attacking midfielder in their hour of need last season. Did he complain and look for the exit ? No, he got his head down and worked for the team.
He is, as people here have alluded to, worth nowhere near £50m. Granted, that doesnt mean someone may not pay it, but show me the gaping hole that Chelsea need to fill with another striker of similar ability and style of play to Torres. For that money the likes of Hulk, Cavani, and possibly even Falcao, could be purchased with far better longevity.
Chelsea, having now started to get the best out of Torres with Drogba gone, simply won't put another marquee striker in the mix to threaten his position.
Rooney is very good at what he does, has a lengthy contract, and has shown nothing but loyalty to his team mates. Believe me, he is going nowhere - and least of all to another team in the English Premier League. Don't forget the flat refusal Chelsea got when they enquired as to the availability of Javier Hernandez. Now there is a player who is out of favour, yet still Fergie wouldnt entertain a sale to Chelsea. And sensibly so in my view. Don't hold your breath on Rooney signing for Chelsea'.
