Tottenham latest: Including Llorente and Moutinho

posted: 9 months ago

Joao Moutinho

All the news and gossip relating to Tottenham Hotspur in the past 24 hours.

Skysports understands that Tottenham are making a late bid to sign Fernando Llorente from Athletic Bilbao before the transfer window closes. The Basque has made his departure intentions clear and now Andre Villas Boas is willing to pay a sizeable amount of the Luka Modric transfer money on the Spanish international. Juventus were leading the chase for his signature but he prefers a move to the Premier League which now appears a real possibility.

Goal.com reports that Andre Villas Boas is still at loggerheads with former side Porto over the potential signing of Portuguese international Joao Moutinho. The 25 year old is wanted for around £20 million as AVB sees him as the perfect replacement for the now departed Luka Modric but Porto are a stubborn selling side and will not budge on a £30 million pricetag. A CNN journalist claimed last night a source close to Porto told him the deal was close, but their has been no progress since.

Daniel Levy has not flown to France to tie up a deal for French striker Loic Remy from Marseille, despite initial reports this morning that he had. The 25 year old will reportedly cost Spurs £15 million after an impressive season last term with Joey Barton’s new employers. Sky Sports claimed Marseille turned down an offer from Spurs this afternoon, despite AVB saying earlier in the day he was not a target.

Meanwhile Spurs are now in talks with French number 1 Hugo Lloris about a move to White Hart Lane. The Lyon stopper is apparently unsure on a move to the Premier League whilst his wage demands are also reportedly high for the strict structure Daniel Levy has in place, however a goalkeeper is seen as a key component to AVB’s rebuilding plan.

One player who will definitely be at White Hart Lane next season is Jermain Defoe who has signed a new three year deal with the club today. The England international has been the subject of much press speculation in recent weeks but has impressed AVB with his attitude and performances on the pitch, an impression that has been rewarded with a new deal.

AVB also claims that yesterday's unveiled signing Moussa Dembele can be one of the signings of the summer, and after his impressive performance at Old Trafford for Fulham at the weekend, few are going to doubt him.

Away from transfer news now and Tottenham have been dealt a huge blow by the news that Younes Kaboul may miss upto 4 months after undergoing knee surgery. The French international became an integral part of the team last season and AVB was hoping to make him the focal point of their defence in light of the retirement of Ledley King. The injury may also put the backburners on any deal that would see Michael Dawson leave the club.

And finally we take a look at 11 players who could potentially all leave Spurs if reports are to be believed, it's quite a list.

What are your thoughts on everything and anything happening at Tottenham Hotspur on the 30th August 2012?
