Five years after he stepped down as the member for Sedgefield, it appears Blair has agreed to sit for the creation of a bust that would join those of other prime ministers in the members' lobby.
Minutes from meetings of the Commons works of art committee reveal that a proposal was made on 8 November last year to commission the bust.
A later meeting took place after Blair agreed in principle, according to a report in the Daily Telegraph, where MPs noted that further negotiations about timings and artists were needed. The lobby currently features busts of every other 20th-century prime minister, as well as statues of Winston Churchill, David Lloyd George and Margaret Thatcher.
A Blair portrait unveiled at Westminster's Portcullis House in 2008 was described by the Guardian arts critic Jonathan Jones as showing a "knackered, tired and fed up" prime minister as he neared the end of his 10 years in power.
It was reported last week that MPs and peers had spent £230,000 on art during the last year, including a £23,000 bust of 19th-century leader William Gladstone.
