Tottenham Hotspur latest: Including Jenas and Bentley

David Bentley Spurs

All the news and gossip from Tottenham Hotspur in the past 24 hours.

David Bentley is to move to Russia on loan in search of first team football. The news he will join FC Rostov was confirmed by Sky Sports this evening. At Rostov he will link up with Croatian goalkeeper and former Spurs man Stipe Pletikosa, as well as newly signed former Liverpool striker Florent Sinama-Pongolle. The loan spell is until January rather than a season-long loan.

Spurs will step up attempts to send midfielder Jermaine Jenas out on loan this weekend when the loan window reopens in the Championship. The former Newcastle midfielder spent much of last campaign injured at Aston Villa on a loan deal and now AVB wants him to get first team football down the Football League. A move to Sunderland fell apart on deadline day but Jenas’s boyhood club Nottingham Forest could potentially lead the way in giving the England international the game time he deserves.

Leandro Damiao has confirmed there was a large offer from a big European club during the closing days of the summer transfer window but has revealed he is pleased with the outcome of the summers business dealings and is pleased to be playing in Brazil with Internacional. Spurs were the leading team chasing the Olympic top goalscorer but were also rivalled by Manchester United, Real Madrid, Internazionale and Liverpool for his much coveted signature. Damiao confirmed he will move to Europe one day but that for now he felt the right decision had been made.

Andre Villas-Boas has announced himself extremely pleased with the debut of Belgian midfielder Moussa Dembele and is sure the performance is a sign of things to come at White Hart Lane. Signed from Fulham during the transfer window he scored against Norwich this weekend to open his Spurs account. He spoke about the midfield players tremendous technical skills and creativity. AVB now hopes he returns from international duty with Belgium unscarred ahead of their trip to Reading in the Premier League next weekend.

Spurs may pursue another striker in the January transfer window as reports today have linked them with a move for Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez. The Mexican is not getting the gametime he received during his impressive debut season and a move to Premier League rivals Spurs may suit Chicarito in his quest to become a regular Premier League goalscorer.

Tottenham youngster Harry Kane has been called into the England Under 21 squad at late notice. The youngster who is currently on loan at Norwich had a highly impressive season on loan at Millwall last campaign and has already played through various age groups for his country but will look forward to a pivotal clash with Norway.
