Five facts about Newcastle United wonderkid Adam Campbell

posted: 9 months ago

St James Park Two

Newcastle United featured their highly rated 17-year-old striker Adam Campbell in the Europa League against Atromitos. He is tipped to have a very bright future in the game indeed.

He has been dubbed the new Michael Owen, which is a lot of pressure on the young lad, and as far as we know he is not into his horse racing.

What can we tell you about the young prospect?

1) Campbell is short for a striker, just 5ft 6, but relies on his pace, power, and sharp shooting to create havoc for defenders.

2) He is a born and bred Newcastle fan, born in Wallsend, under a 15 minute drive away from St James' Park.

3) Campbell's debut against Atromitos made him the youngest player ever to play for the club in European competition.

4) He kicked off his season in fine form, impressing a watching senior boss Alan Pardew as he scored a first half hat-trick to take Newcastle's under-21 side to a frenetic 6-4 win over Tottenham under-21s.

5) He scored six goals at the Northern Ireland Milk Cup tournament in June, leading both Manchester United and Manchester City to be linked with his signature. As a Geordie boy surrounded by a close-knit family, you imagine he will not be keen on repeating Andy Carroll's exit in a hurry.
