Tottenham Hotspur latest: Including Friedel and Anderson

posted: 8 months ago

Anderson

All the news and gossip from Tottenham Hotspur in the past 24 hours.

Benoit Assou-Ekotto has waded into the Lloris-Friedel debate by commenting that the Frenchman should expect to be number two at the club behind the American. The Cameroonian left back announced his backing to Friedel as a goalkeeper who does not make mistakes and Lloris should not expect to waltz into the first team till Brad starts to show weakness in his play. Lloris will address the situation with Andre Villas Boas upon his return from international duty with France, as he seeks assurances to ‘allez’ his fears of a season on the bench that could threaten his Les Bleus standing.

Andre Villas Boas has reportedly insisted on Tottenham Hotspur signing Ganso this January after being left frustrated at the failure to bring in Luka Modric. The Brazilian starlet is also being targeted by Flamengo and Sao Paulo amongst others. Spurs hope the lure of the Premier League may sway him away from his homeland and the presence of international team mate and buddy Sandro at the Lane may also give Spurs the edge over some of their other European contenders.

Manchester United appear set to move Anderson on after becoming increasingly frustrated with his lack of progression at Old Trafford after an impressive start to his English career. Tottenham are reportedly interested in signing the former Porto midfielder. They are not expected to sell him in January but come the end of the season big improvements in his consistency and injury record will have to have been made in order for him to remain a Red Devil.

Bringing you a story missed from a few days ago and Tottenham will reportedly lodge an enquiry into a potential January arrival for Spanish international Adrian Lopez from Atletico Madrid. He had a sensational season last year and has continued in a similar vein this campaign alerting the likes of Barcelona, Arsenal and Spurs to his potential signature. He has stalled over a recent contract offer and is waiting until January to make a decision on his future. The 24 year old currently has a release clause of £14.5 million in his deal that could be activated by any of the clubs pursuing the talent.

And finally Neil Warnock has confirmed his interest in bringing in Jermaine Jenas to Leeds United on a season long loan deal. It comes after a similar deal with Sunderland broke down in deadline day and a spell at Villa last season was ruined by injury. A loan spell would give him the chance of first team football, an unlikely prospect at Spurs under AVB.
