Champions League Betting: Manchester City and Chelsea to take centre stage

posted: 8 months ago

Champions League

The Champions League returns this week and Chelsea will find it more difficult than ever to retain their European crown with one of the most open fields of potential winners in the competition’s history, with Manchester City's visit to the Berbabeu a stand-out clash.

Here are five betting tips for the opening round of fixtures...

PSG to beat Dynamo Kiev by two goals at 4/1 with Ladbrokes

Paris Saint-German enjoyed an increase in profile over the summer with big money signings such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva. They have started well at home in Le Championnat securing a win and two draws with a goal difference of plus two. Kiev have lost two away from home already in the league and the occasion of a European night in Paris may be too much for them.

A straight Malaga win at 13/8 with Coral

Malaga have been one of the early pace setters in La Liga, second behind Barcelona who are yet to do anything other than win a game. Malaga look as though they will be strong at home with four points out of six domestically. Malaga should have enough to get over the line.

Manchester City to get a draw in Madrid at 14/5 with Stan James

This may seem like a risky one but Real Madrid have not started their season well and Jose Mourinho is already criticising his team. Real have played four, won one, drawn one and lost two in the league. City haven’t won away from home in the Premier League but Roberto Mancini is likely to have learnt from the lessons dished out in tough European away fixtures last season such as the defeat at Bayern Munich.

Chelsea to beat Juventus at 6/5 with Boylesports

Chelsea are the defending champions and will be looking to start their defence with three points. Chelsea have set the early pace in the Premier League with two wins from two at home. Juventus are a big club but considering Chelsea’s form at home and lack of injuries to key players, it would be surprising if they don’t win this match.

Barcelona to beat Spartak Moscow by three or more goals at 8/11 with Skybet

This is the only odds on tip but it is only just the wrong side of evens and it would be surprising if Barca didn’t start with a rout. The Spanish side already have a goal difference of plus five from two home La Liga matches. The Super Cup is the only time Barca have been defeated so far this season.
