As an international side Spain are a very good side; even if they don’t start with a recognised forward! As for their club football, it has to be said it’s nowhere near as good.
On Sunday I watched four games of football; two Spanish games from their top division and a Championship game as well as a Premier League game. I will stand by what I’ve said for the last couple of years, the Premier League is the best in the world and by a long way.
The Spanish game is so much slower but the sad part about it is the acting is terrible. They go down and act as if hurt for the smallest thing; one player went down and hadn’t been touched. Even the commentator moaned and they’re used to it.
The skill of the players is as good as the English game; the impressive thing about the game over here is you have the skill with the added speed.
The second Spanish game I watched was Atletico Madrid who basically destroyed their opponents and yet the game ended four goals to three. Rayo Vallecano simply had no answer; it was definitely a heavyweight against a lightweight and yet they could have taken a point.
Despite the amount of goals scored I still didn’t find the football all that good. Spanish defending is not the best in the world and that as far as I'm concerned is a fact.
In the Championship, Wolves took on Leicester and while it wasn’t the best game at least there wasn’t any ‘dying’; good honest players going about their play. While the pace is slower in the Championship I still think it’s slightly faster than the top flight from Spain.
I’m going to try and watch some French and Italian football later in the week to see if they can change my mind but I somehow doubt it. The best players in the world want to play in the best league in the world which is the Premier League.
Just to add to the piece; I think Barcelona are still the best team in the entire world - Before you comment; I know they’re Spanish!
Where do you stand? Premier League or La Liga?
