Aston Villa need to get their NextGen campaign up and running tonight or risk early elimination from the competition. So far they have suffered two separate defeats at the hands of PSV and Sporting Lisbon and welcome Scottish side Celtic to Birmingham in an all British tie.
Celtic were also defeated by Sporting in their opening fixture, with the Portuguese side becoming early dark-horses to win the entire competition.
Aston Villa should be in no doubt about the Scottish sides desire to pick up a win today as many of their team have been very vocal on Twitter …

Who also had a pop at the English league whilst watching yesterday’s game between City and Real…

People say the English league is the best in the world yet the champions are back against the walls against the Spanish champions #overrated
However Aston Villa are also up for the game and Samir Carruthers has insisted they will not be going out without a fight, whilst also wanting to prove something about the English system in the process.
He believes the key to returning to the form that saw them impress in last season’s edition is to rediscover the free-flowing and attacking minded play that has dissipated, especially in the fixture with PSV.
So far this campaign they have certainly not been lethal enough in the final third. Against PSV despite a lot of good pressure they failed to score and with Samir back in the fold they have a dangerous and experienced NextGen player at their disposal.
Here are some tweets from excited Villa youngsters…
