The Luis Suarez ban, handed to him for an incident in October last year, took just two months for the FA to dole out. The John Terry - Anton Ferdinand case happened a week later, but the FA took until yesterday to announce a verdict.
This was because the FA had suspended the process because of a complaint by the police taken forward by the CPS, but Terry was acquitted of a racially aggravated public order offence in July due to a lack of evidence that he meant the abusive term as an insult; his defence was that he was being sarcastic.
It did not stop the FA issuing a four game ban to him yesterday after their independent panel found him guilty, although he has a fortnight to appeal the verdict.
The length of the ban has upset many, including Joey Barton who was banned for 12 games for violent conduct, who insisted the FA's punishments were out of sync, but most put out were Liverpool fans, who saw a discrepancy and inconsistency between the punishments given to Suarez, and the former England captain.
Here is what they have been saying on Twitter:
@maxfooklfc: Still cant believe that Suarez was banned for 8 games, with NO video evidence, JT banned for 4 games with ACTUAL evidence!! PATHETIC
@mariusolausson: OK, so Shelvey gets 3 games for a 50/50 tackle, Terry 4 games for racism & Suarez 8 games for racism. Makes no sence?
@mattci10: Ha Suarez gets 8 game ban lost in translation coment terry gets just 4 for calling someone a black ****! What a joke!
@themattmachina: How can Terry get half the ban of Suarez? An unfair and inept decision by the FA, nobody will think this is fair.
@sean83_lfc: The English FA are some joke. Where's the consistency?? If suarez had called evra a black **** he would have been banned for the season!!
@indeepgrewal: John Terry ban half the length of Luis Suarez's 8 games for the same offence. What a JOKE!! FA are a Disgrace!! He is English so it's okay!!
@wingwizard: I really don't think
#LFC fans need prove FA prejudice againstsuarez, the FA have just proved our point.
