Sir Alex Ferguson weighs in on John Terry - "Ban is lenient"

posted: 8 months ago

Sir Alex Ferguson

The Manchester United boss has been speaking this morning about John Terry's ban, and why he should consider himself lucky.

The sight Liverpool supporters never thought they would see; Sir Alex Ferguson sticking up for their point of view.

The Manchester United boss echoed the concerns of many on Merseyside, over the discrepancy between the eight-match ban doled out to Luis Suarez, and the four match ban handed to former England captain John Terry yesterday, for a similar offence of using racist language.

In his morning press conference today, he said: "The fact he got a four-game ban, he may consider that's quite lenient considering Luis Suarez got eight."

The manager also criticised the time it took for the FA to carry out their investigations into proceedings, with 11 months passed after the shameful incident at Loftus Road, and said it is 'time to move on.'

However with United defender Rio Ferdinand, the brother of Anton who was abused by Terry, the situation is unlikely to go away just yet, with inevitable focus on the pre-match handshakes between the pair when they next meet on the pitch.

Terry has a fortnight to appeal the FA's verdict and says he is waiting to review the panel's written judgement before pursuing the matter.
