Germany: Marco Reus returned to haunt his own club as he scored twice in Dortmund’s 5-0 win over Monchengladbach. Having been off colour lately this was a welcome return to form for the German champion’s ahead of their trip to Manchester City this week.
Hamburg, once again inspired by Rafael van de Vaart, recorded a 1-0 win over Hannover. Two wins and a draw in their last three has seen them climb into mid-table. Bayern Munich maintained their superb start by going to Werder Bremen and winning 2-0, that makes it six league wins from six for Jupp Heynckes’ side. Frankfurt are in second, they came from behind to beat Freiburg 2-1 at home.
Spain: Barcelona produced a remarkable comeback to win 3-2 at Sevilla, trailing 2-1 in the 88th minutes, goals from Cesc Fabregas and David Villa earned them 3 points and stopped Sevilla from picking up a home victory to add to their triumph over Real Madrid two weeks ago. Malaga’s red hot form continued as they demolished Betis 4-0 at home to keep them in second place in the league.
Athletic Bilbao’s miserable start continued as they went down 2-0 at Sociedad, that drops Beilsa’s side, who were so exciting last season, to 17th in the league. Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat trick as Real Madrid beat Deportivo 5-1. That means the gap to Barca stays at 8 points ahead of next Sunday's Clasico. Athletico Madrid are still only 2 points off the top, they managed to sneak a 1-0 win at Espanyol despe being without the injured Falcao.
Italy: Having dropped their first league points in a 0-0 draw at Fiorentina midweek, Juventus roared back to winning ways by thrashing Roma 4-1. AC Milan broke the curse of the San Siro by winning 2-0 at home in midweek, but were pegged back to draw 1-1 at Parma on Saturday.
Inter broke their own San Siro curse by winning 2-1 at home to Fiorentina at the weekend. They are now third in Serie A, joint with Lazio, who beat Siena 2-1, on 12 points. Napoli remain level on points with juventus at the top, their 1-0 win away at Sampdoria was courtesy of an Edinson Cavani penalty.
France: PSG had a great weekend in Ligue 1. They won 2-0 at home to Sochaux to go 2nd after Lyon lost 2-0 at home to Bordeaux on Sunday. PSG are also now only three points behind Marseilles, who were battered 4-1 away at Valenciennes. Last year's champions Montepellier picked up their second win of the season, 2-0 at Nancy, to move into 13th place.
