Manchester United fans react on Twitter to Scott Wootton's UCL debut

posted: 8 months ago

Man United Pre Season Line Up

Manchester United handed a Champions League debut to 21-year-old Scott Wootton last night, bringing him on for the final 12 minutes of the match away in Romania, after taking off Jonny Evans with an injury concern.

Evans is expected to recover for United's weekend clash away to Newcastle, with the substitution a precaution, and as we tipped last week prior to his League Cup involvement, Scott Wootton was the next in line.

He got his chance last night, and if United do suffer any injury setbacks, Wootton could even start against Newcastle for the second time in a fortnight.

So what did United fans make of his late cameo, which saw him help the defence stand firm and secure a 2-1 away win?

Here is a look at the reaction on Twitter...

@samadders: Pleased to see Scott Wooton get on, but would've preferred it to be a little more comfortable.

@jordan_abraham: This time last year, Scott Wootton played for Peterborough United. Today, he is playing for Manchester United in the Champions League.

@DJMan_Utd72: Also good to see Wootton get a run out too. Time to unleash Buttner at left back though, move aside Patrice!

@msarosh: Good for Sir Alex to through in Wootton in this situation. We might need him. #MUFC

@jimstokes_91: Good to see Scott Wootton get a game, he looks to be a good defender #MUFC

@mcoatsy: I already like this Wootton more than Evans and he's only just come on #mufc

@aarsee: Like I keep saying bleed in buttner and Wootton. Evans, evra not good enough #MUFC #championsleague

@50savesofdegea: Back 5 have to be De Gea Rafa Wootton Rio Buttner for Sunday

@iam_jackia: Anyway, we win, move on. Again, made up seeing wootton get on.

So an early vote on confidence, but how would United fans feel if he starts at St James Park at the weekend?
