The Sun reported this morning: "£1.366m was basic salary with a bonus of £675,000, benefits of £9,000 and pension contributions of £100,000. The figure is more than all of Chelsea's directors combined."
So does he deserve it? Well he has overseen some impressive financial results for Arsenal, but when they are boosted by player sales and the club is seven years without a trophy, it isn't completely rosy at the Emirates despite what the number crunchers may argue otherwise.
Here is how supporters have been reacting on Twitter to the news:
@andywright711: Concerning news coming out of #afc today. Gazidis making money out of player sales? What's that about!
@oldskoolafc: Ivan Gazidis got paid as much as the entire Chelsea board last year. This was while he was preaching frugality when team strengthening
@goonerjay86: Hands up who got a 36% pay rise for doing f@#k all this year! Gazidis why haven't you got your hand up? Only at arsenal
@vinbhat: We are being firm with Theo on wages, but rewarding Gazidis with a 36% hike. Hmm...
@nicolewoolner: We've won nothing yet Ivan Gazidis deserves a 36% pay rise. What sort of rubbish is going on at this club
@goonertren: Arsenal have to come clean. I usually couldn't give a **** about the financial side but Gazidis surely doesn't warrant that salary!
@prestonbhoy: What the hell gives gazidis the right to earn 2.1mil from player sales!! ****ing joke #afc #usmanov
@davejunia: Arsenal CEO Ivan Gazadis gets massive 36% payrise for delivering absolutely nothing. Club is going down in flames.
@bradders1066: Gazidis and the board should resign ! Not much penny pinching when it comes to ivans take home eh? #afc #fleeced #unbelievable
@wrecker19: why did Ivan the terrible get a big bonus at arsenal when the commercial dept performance is rubbish?player contract management is a joke?
@grant_jshaw: Ivan Gazidis earned 2 million last year! No way! That's not going to please @piersmorgan one little bit!!!
