Chelsea have got their NextGen campaign finally up to steam after defeating CSKA Moscow in Russia. On paper what seemed to be a difficult match proved to be a tense one indeed but Chelsea eventually came through as 1-0 victors after a strike from Jeremie Boga in the last 20 minutes.
The game was a hard fought encounter with both teams seemingly even but the game-changer was a red-card shown to CSKA player Anton Polyutkin not long into the second half and after sustaining pressure Chelsea eventually got their goal as the Frenchman popped up in the box to give The Blues an advantage.
Chelsea were not devoid of squeaky-bum-time themselves after substitute Jordan Houghton received his marching orders after two quick-fire bookings, the first of which appeared harsh, not long after Chelsea took the lead.
The game was now 10-v-10 but Chelsea held on to move them within six points of the Russian side at the top of Group 3 with two games in hand.
Here are some Twitter reactions from the game…
Fankaty Dabo @big_dabs Buzzin won 1 - 0 in a tough game against CSKA ! Got the assist for the goal :) !
In the other fixtures from last night Celtic usurped Aston Villa in their respective group after an astonishing opening quarter of an hour that saw ‘The Young Bhoys’ take an early 3-0 lead through goals from Patrik Twardzik, Callum McGregor and John Herron which helped lead them to their first points of this seasons campaign. A goal from Geraldo Antonio threatened to get the Dutch side back into the game but all hope was lost when Mohamed Rayhi was sent off late on for the away side.
While in a rather ominous looking performance it seems Barcelona have finally clicked into gear as they tore Wolfsburg apart in a game that was live on Eurosport. The Catalans romped to a 5-0 away victory, the goals courtesy of Pol Calvet, Nando, Alain Ebswelle and two 90th minute strikes at the feet of Joel Huertas and Cristian Herrera in front of a NextGen record attendance, the goals of which you can see here.
What are your thoughts on all of the NextGen action?
