Newcastle United - At Least Fans Can Be Grateful That It Won't Be 'Wonga Arena'

The speculation that short-term money lender Wonga looks set to sign a sponsorship deal with Newcastle United must have fans not a little concerned.

The club is known to be looking for a stadium naming-rights deal (Sports Direct Arena, the current name of the stadium, will give way once a proper deal is inked). But 'Wonga Park'! Really ! You gotta be kiddin', right ?

But the good news for Newcastle supporters is that the deal the club and Wonga are discussing involves shirt sponsorship only (similar to the deal the company already has with Championship side Blackpool).

One Newcastle fan told Here Is The City: 'We were up in arms when Ashley changed the name of St James' Park to the 'Sports Direct Arena'. Can you imagine if he did a naming rights deal with that loans company ? We wouldn't have stood for it - not for all the Wonga in the world!'.
