It seems that Alex McLeish did actually do something right during his repulsive time at Villa Park.
Paul Lambert has been quick to praise the fellow Scot for his signing of Brett Holman. “If Alex McLeish scouted him then it’s great credit to him because he’s doing great for the club.”
The Australian winger has become known as ‘The Running Man’ for his energetic displays for Villa. Lambert has also described Holman as “creative” and “brilliant,” stating that he has been unlucky not to open his Villa account with a goal yet.
Villa are apparently interested in signing 22 year old German midfielder Lewis Holtby. His contract expires at the end of the season and Villa are expected to begin talks with the player in January. Holtby is a goalscoring midfielder, scoring 3 goals in 7 games this season, and fit’s the Lambert mantra of being ‘young and hungry.’
Injured Villa youngster Garry Gardner has illustrated his commitment to the club, by stating that he would even play in goal for the club if required.Gardner is still about six months away from making a return, whether in goal or his more natural midfield position.
Marc Albrighton has said that he is pleased by the way manager Lambert is going about business at Villa, but he also understands that it’s a long term plan, warning that fans shouldn’t start judging Lambert’s work until next season.
In an interview with Sky Sports, Albrighton also relived his joy at creating history by scoring the Premierships 20,000th goal last season.
