Fabio Borini is reported to have broken a bone in his foot, on international duty with Italy's under-21 side. It is a cruel blow for the striker who is still attempting to make his mark at the club, and another tough slice of luck for Liverpool, who already have a shortage of strikers.
Suso has confirmed that he will sign a new contract at Liverpool. The Spanish midfielder was signed to the club during the reign of Rafa Benitez. He has just been given his chance in the first team by Brendan Rodgers and the player has revealed he is delighted to have agreed a new deal which will keep him at the club for the foreseeable future.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has said he will keep faith with under pressure goalkeeper Pepe Reina. Reina has been the number one at the club for a number of years and there have been suggestions he has been at fault for Liverpool’s leaky defence so far this season. However, Rodgers has said he is not about to axe Reina from the side.
Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has shrugged off the criticism he has received since the draw against Stoke City. Stoke boss Tony Pulis said Suarez should be banned for diving but the striker has said he does not care what other managers think or say about him with his only aim to do well for his club this season. Suarez’s performance or theatrics in the match against Stoke have re-opened the debate on diving in the Premier League.
Alessandro Del Piero has revealed he turned down a move to Liverpool out of respect for Juventus fans and the Heysel Tragedy. The tragedy happened before the 1985 European Cup final between the two sides where 39 Juventus supporters were killed. Del Piero has said he was flattered by the Liverpool interest but had no choice out of respect for the club.
Liverpool Under-21 striker Dani Pacheco has revealed his frustration at being forced back into the reserve side. Pacheco has featured prominently in some games for Liverpool this season and is an alternative to Luis Suarez and Fabio Borini in attack. Pacheco will feel extremely frustrated he has not been able to keep his place in the full first team squad.
Liverpool winger Oussama Assaidi has said he will give everything to try and get a regular place in the Liverpool team. Lawrenson wrote in his column for a local news paper in Liverpool that the club need to think up new tactics when things aren’t going well and also placed emphasis on getting Luis Suarez to stay on his feet as he chances of winning penalties and free kicks have been drastically reduced.
Former Liverpool player Alan Kennedy has said that midfielder Jonjo Shelvey can become an England regular for many years to come. Shelvey has just been called up to the England squad for the World Cup qualifying games against San Marino and Poland following some impressive performances through the start of the season for Liverpool.
