Liverpool fans react on Twitter to Borini injury

posted: 8 months ago

Fabio Borini

Liverpool are reeling from the news Fabio Borini has fractured his foot while on international duty with Italy's under-21 side.

The news was relayed to Liverpool by the Italian FA yesterday evening, that the £10.5 million striker had fractured his right metatarsal in training.

The length of time Borini will be out for is presently unclear. However initial prognosis is that the recovery time will be 2-3 months rather than weeks.

Our analysis: It is a cruel blow for the striker, who is still striving to find his way in a Liverpool shirt, with just one goal to his name so far - against Gomel in Europa League qualifying. Liverpool now are left in a tough spot. They will need to wrap Luis Suarez in cotton wool, and not overplay him, and cross their fingers he returns to the club in one piece from his international travails in South America. Even despite Borini's lack of goals so far, the coming months would likely have seen him come out of his shell and adapt, and it is a loss despite what his early critics may say otherwise.

If Rodgers thought he might get away with allowing Andy Carroll to leave on loan without a replacement, this is the last thing he and the club needed, and brings their transfer deadline day debacle back into sharp focus. There may be opportunities though. Adam Morgan, Samed Yesil, or Michael Ngoo will hope to step up from Liverpool's under-21s, and Dani Pacheco could yet play a more forward role. The club simply now need to get to January in a good league position, for when Borini returns, and they can sign additional goalscorers.

So that's what we feel about it, what do supporters think, and how did they react to the news? Here is a snapshot, from Twitter last night and this morning:

@elninocharlatan: Can't believe Borini injured. Suarez on 4 bookings, u can c wot will happen. Will get a 1 game ban & we travel 2 Blue**** with no strikers.

@adamtallica: Now Borini's out of the picture, let's have a bit o' Samed Yesil please.#YNWA #LFC

@joshuffindell: Borini's injured. What are we going to do for 3 months without our talisman goalscorer?

@arronsolanki: Somehow I don't think Borini will be missed that much at Anfield#disappointment #CouldntScoreInABrothel #LFC

@eddygecko: Awful lack of foresight at Liverpool. In a very tricky situation. How someone can say they wont miss Borini is incredible imo.

@garymcdaid78: Liverpool forward Fabio Borini breaks bone in his foot, leaving Luis Suarez as the only recognised striker at Anfield. #BringAndyBack

@bounce147: Borini injured. Great.. Another striker down.. At least it's not Suarez

@guns80: #Borini out it's not the end of the world Yesil and Morgan maybe Ngoo will get a chance and Borini will be back for 2nd half of season

@ro_dders: Borini injury prob means we get to see more of Joe Cole wheezing around the pitch then *sigh*

@ladkin: Hope Borini isn't out for too long and that Suarez doesn't get injured. Swear we are jinxed. Chance for Yesil now. #lfc #nostrikers

@thesimonpeacock: Bad time for Borini to get injured! Out til probably January time where we buy a new striker (hopefully) and he can't get back in the team

How do you feel about the news? How will it affect Liverpool's season, and are you worried about Suarez picking up an injury for Uruguay?
