If you haven’t heard the rumours coming out of Old Trafford they consist mainly of an apparent bust-up between the young starlet and current Manchester United first-teamer Nani. After an apparent confrontation on the training pitch it is reported that Nani approached the former Roma youngster to apologise in the club gym, only to then ‘punch’ him.
Now footballers seem to have a very interesting idea of what a ‘punch’ is so it is safe to assume whatever source is leaking this information is in fact exaggerating the physicality of contact and it would surely of resembled more of a face-push slap rather than a Tyson-esque right hook.
Yet so far this campaign it is the closest the young Italian has come to making an impact at Old Trafford. While the incident seems to be the prelude for the end of Nani’s Manchester stay what does the future hold for Davide Petrucci.
He didn’t make an appearance in the Carling Cup tie with Newcastle United, with Sir Alex wanting to give Darren Fletcher and Anderson game time in their respective rehabilitations.
While he didn’t feature for the under-21 side in their previous outing with Southampton he has been a regular feature for Warren Joyce’s men along with Federico Macheda, Angelo Henriquez and Bebe.
He scored against Newcastle and has impressed with his general link-up play for the under-21 side and after putting behind him the injury problems that have besieged his fledging career could he finally be on the verge of making the first-team.
He has been training with the main squad, as the incident with Nani shows he is clearly not afraid to make himself known either by getting stuck in with the first team players.
United fans seem to be excited about him and out of the incident with Nani the 21-year-old Italian seems the one with the more promising future with The Red Devils.
What do you make of Petrucci’s future? Should he go out on loan to progress?
