Patrice Evra got over his recent dip in form after putting many a pundit, including me, in their place with an assured performance against Newcastle last weekend. Not only that but he also added a collector’s item, a Patrice Evra goal, to the occasion; his very own pièce de résistance to a gourmet display.
Yet he has found himself in the gaff columns once again this week after having a slightly forgetful moment over names whilst training with France.
Yeah sure he has had more infamous moments on a French training pitch such as the confrontation with fitness coach Robert Duverne during the mutiny of the FIFA World Cup in 2010.
Many called on him to never play for France again as a result of that disastrous campaign but he is currently with the squad ahead of their upcoming games with Japan and Spain.
Yet it seems he has struggled to come to terms with some of the new faces in the side, including Paris Saint-Germain defender Christophe Jallet. The right back has been captaining the capital club and that has earned him a place in the French line-up under new boss Didier Deschamps.
He even scored against Belarus last month so he should be well known to the Manchester United full-back.
However the former Monaco man seemed to get all confuddled when engaging with the 28-year-old Deschamps favourite.
According to reports in France hilarity ensued, as the confusion may be due to the clean-shaven-headed similarities to Jallet’s Paris Saint-Germain team-mate Jeremie Menez.
The two will likely be on opposite touchlines if they feature for France so such confusion should hopefully not be an issue for Patrice, for somebody who seems to get names mixed up so easily he more than anyone, would have been happy to see Fabio move to QPR on loan this summer.
Let’s just hope he doesn’t start calling Nani, Antonio.
