Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre has said that the club welcomes a move to look into the police involved with the Hillsborough tragedy. A recent report revealed that the police were at fault for 96 Liverpool fans losing their lives when the authorities opened the gates at Hillsborough for a cup game in 1989. Initially the police stated that it was the fault of the fans that so many lives were lost.
Reported Liverpool strike target Rodrigo was in sublime form last night, scoring four goals for Spain's under-21 side in a 5-0 win over Denmark. The Benfica forward was linked with the club last month, and is also interesting Arsenal. You can watch all four of his goals here.
Jen Chang, director of communications at Anfield, has found himself at the centre of controversy, after allegedly accusing a blogger of costing the club money by Tweeting details of their transfer negotiations. The fan, who posted under a spoof account with the name Duncan Jenkinson, denied he had a mole at the club and simply took his information off fan forums. Chang claimed Roma upped their asking price for Fabio Borini as a result of the tweets. Liverpool have not commented on the issue.
Raheem Sterling is set to make his England debut for the Under-21 side in their European Championship first leg play-off match against Serbia. Sterling has been given a glowing report from Under-21 boss Stuart Pearce who believes Sterling will be an England regular for years to come. Sterling is enjoying his first break out season after Brendan Rodgers drafted him into the Liverpool first team.
Liverpool have been linked with Galatasaray striker Burak Yilmaz in light of the news about Fabio Borini’s broken foot. Yilmaz has made three appearances for his club so far this season scoring five goals in the process. He is thought to be a cheaper and realistic alternative to some of the attacking strikers that Brendan Rodgers is tracking ahead of the January transfer window.

Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina has said he will not be one of the players on Brendan Rodgers’ ‘let down list’. The list contains the name of three players that Rodgers predicted would let the team down at the start of the season. A soon to be broadcast documentary on the club shows Rodgers holding up three envelopes in front of the Liverpool squad with the names of his ‘let down players’ before the season had started.
Brendan Rodgers has once again showed his support for midfielder Joe Allen by stating that the player was born to play for Liverpool. Allen was a 16-year-old at Swansea City where Brendan Rodgers was previously manager. Rodgers has said that Allen would have fitted into any Liverpool team from the moment he first played a professional game.
Former Liverpool Director of Football Damien Comolli is the favourite to take over the same role at West Bromwich Albion. Comolli left Liverpool last April and has only just agreed a compensation package with the club which allows him to move onto the same role at another Premier League side. Comolli is blamed by some sections of fans for Liverpool’s transfer activity while he was employed at the side.
