It's all systems go for Chelsea's swoop for Falcao, according to today's papers. It is being widely reported that Roman Abramovich has agreed to fund a huge bid for the freescoring Colombian striker.
The Atletico Madrid striker scored twice for his country last night in a 2-0 win over Paraguay, to set them on course for World Cup qualification. You can watch both goals here.
However ESPN claim Chelsea are in fact unlikely to spend big money on Falcao, because of wariness over UEFA's impending Financial Fair Play regulations. In addition to this, we take a look at Atletico Madrid's excellent form, and ask if the fact they are presently in the title hunt could tempt the Colombian into staying at the club if they remain in contention in January.
One club who claim they won't be signing Falcao, is Atletico's cross city rivals Real Madrid. Jose Mourinho has stated there is a 'non-aggression' pact between the two clubs which will stop either pursuing each others players.
It is also being reported that Chelsea are attempting to tie up a deal for Theo Walcott on a free transfer. Walcott will become a free agent in the summer and clubs will be able to sign a pre-contract agreement with him in January. He is yet to commit to a deal at Arsenal, despite admitting he would like to stay at the Emirates if he can play as a striker.
Also in international action today were Chelsea's Nigerian stars. The Super Eagles demolished Liberia 6-1 to seal qualification for the African Nations Cup. Victor Moses scored twice and Jon Obi Mikel also scored in the rout.
Gary Cahill says he has the full backing of John Terry to go on and replace him for England in the heart of their defence. The centre-back helped keep a clean sheet in England's straightforward 5-0 win over San Marino last night.
MLS Commissioner Don Graber has spoken in relation to claims Frank Lampard could head over to America next summer. He has said he would actively welcome such a big name in the States, and if he were permitted he would 'chat Lampard up' himself.
