How Will Arsenal Be Compensated For Theo Walcott's Injury ?

Following agreements between FIFA, UEFA and the European Clubs Association (ECA), when players playing for clubs are injured on international duty during major tournaments, then the national governing body will be required to compensate the club which the player plays for.

So will Arsenal get some compensation for that horrific-looking injury to Theo Walcott during the World Cup qualifer against San Marino Friday ?

And exactly what form this compensation will take ? Will the FA pay Walcott's salary, national insurance and other associated costs ? Will it pick up the tab should Arsenal need to spend money on medical advice or treatment ?

And what about the player himself ? Will Walcott be compensated for a lack of win bonuses during the time he is injured as a result of his time on international duty ?

Unfortunately for Arsenal, however, it seems that the limitations on the agreement mentioned above are that it only applies to injuries suffered in the final stages of an international football tournament and not the qualifying stages.

Arsenal will therefore get nothing, and face the prospect of not only having a key player injured as a result of his time on England duty, but also paying for that priviledge. It's no wonder Arsene Wenger (and many other managers) get stressed out when players are called up for international friendlies or qualifying games.

Many fans and football-watchers feel that this is totally unfair to clubs, especially given the amount of money the FA makes from the game, and the fact the the football authorities could surely insure against having to pay out.
