Arsenal were humbled by an impressive Schalke 04 side at The Emirates last night with two goals from Dutch internationals. Klaas Jan Huntelaar and Ibrahim Afellay grabbed the goals in a 2-0 defeat and Arsene Wenger conceded Champions League qualification was now a much more difficult proposition.
Steve Bould says the team currently look jaded after the international break and that the team lacked confidence on the ball in a ‘frustrating’ defeat. He conceded the impotent performance warranted nothing more than a defeat and he would have been happy to take a 0-0 result against the German outfit.
Arsenal held their annual general meeting today and chief executive Ivan Gazidis, Chairman Peter Hill-Wood and majority shareholder Stan Kroenke were all heckled over the clubs financial strategy and failure to win a trophy. One shareholder accused Gazidis of ruining the club with his financial policies while Arsene Wenger received warm applause after his reception, which opened with an apology over the recent losses to Norwich City and Schalke 04.
Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood also confirmed that Robin Van Persie was moved on this summer due to footballing reasons. The top goal-scorer from last season was allowed to join rivals Manchester United for £24 million in the summer after he became disillusioned at the path the club was taking.
St Louis Rams have been training at Arsenal’s London Colney training facility ahead of their NFL match-up at Wembley against New England Patriots at Wembley on Saturday. Considering majority shareholder Stan Kroenke also owns a large part of the NFL franchise it is not surprising that they have been allowed to train at the facility ahead of the game this weekend.
Arsenal are in NextGen action today as they take on Marseille in the South of France. We had a look at their campaign so far and some of the Twitter reactions ahead of the game at the Stade Marcel Cerdan.
Theo Walcott’s future looks to be away from Arsenal after he was omitted from the next round of contract negotiations at the club. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Kieran Gibbs and Emmanuel Frimpong are all set to be offered new deals at The Emirates however the club will try to move him on in January.
Arsene Wenger has also admitted that Jack Wilshere could start against QPR this weekend. After watching The Gunners slip to two disappointing defeats on the bounce he admits bringing in Wilshere is a definite possibility.
