Lambert fires back at Norwich City chairman

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has reacted to comments made by his former chairman at Norwich City Alan Bowkett.

Last season saw the end of their partnership at Carrow Road and it was a bitter end to say the least.

Bowkett had reportedly been unhappy with the way in which Lambert left the Canaries for Aston Villa and claimed in a fans’ forum that he had left his previous clubs in a similar fashion – what some fans claim is a mark of disloyalty.

But Lambert has now fired back at his accuser and claims that he left the club not in breach of his contract.

Both Bowkett and Lambert are now entangled in legal disputes – each one suing the other for breach of contract under the regulations supervised by a Premier League manager’s tribunal.

Lambert responded,

“I've never spoken to the chairman for about three years. Let him talk. We will see what happens.”

He took the opportunity to defend himself, adding,

"Could I have handled leaving Norwich any differently? Me, not at all. I took advice from the LMA and I know what is going on. It will be in the hands of a Premier League manager's tribunal and hopefully it will be sorted. But I've got nothing to be ashamed of. I've got nothing to hide."

Many Canaries fans were outraged by the means in which Lambert ‘abandoned’ the club. Many suggested he had shown disloyalty when he made the switch and took the reigns at Aston Villa, ending his 3-year spell at the club and leaving a ‘bad taste’.

"When you leave a club, especially after what we'd done, you'd think we'd be made to feel welcome. But it doesn't always transpire that way. I look back at the three years with pride.”

He continued,

"It was an incredible part of my life which I'll never forget and the crowd were magic with me.

Lambert will go head-to-head with his old club this Saturday as Norwich travel to Villa Park where the two sides will have their opportunity to air their grievances.

Norwich will feel strong as they go into the game a point ahead of their opposition in 15th place while Villa sit uncomfortably just outside the relegation zone in 17th.

"Football moves on but I'll never forget the time there. I loved my time there but I don't think I'll be made welcome to go back, that's for sure."
