Tottenham Hotspur latest: Including Gallas and Bale bid?

News, views, and gossip in relation to Tottenham Hotspur over the past 24 hours...

Tottenham beat Southampton 2-1 yesterday, lifting them to fourth in the table. They sit on 17 points, above Everton and Arsenal, both on 16, but remain four points below Manchester United and Manchester City (21) and five behind Chelsea (22). HITC writer Nick Harris takes a look at the victory at St Mary's and picks five positive aspects supporters can take from the win.

The Guardian are reporting a potential transfer bid for Gareth Bale from Real Madrid, of around £50 million, which could or could not involve Fabio Coentrao arriving at White Hart Lane. We remain sceptical as to whether this is just silly season gossip, or something more substantial is around the corner.

Clint Dempsey has hailed the win against Southampton, as the 'type of game the club need to win'. He added his delight at scoring, but that he also wished his side could have got a third goal to kill the game off and ease the pressure late on.

William Gallas has taken a swipe at Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger by disagreeing that finishing fourth is the equivalent of winning a trophy. The Tottenham defender said that there is no substitute for the actual feeling of winning a trophy, and has said he is determined to win silverware with Spurs this season.

A report has linked Spurs with a surprise move for Newcastle forward Papiss Cisse. The striker is reported to be unsettled at St James Park and the Mirror claim Spurs are one of a number of clubs interested even though the Magpies would be reluctant to let him leave.

Emmanuel Adebayor is a doubt for Tottenham's League Cup game against Norwich on Wednesday night. The striker has a stomach bug and went home from training early today with coach Steffen Freund unable to say whether he will make the squad for the game at Carrow Road.

Hugo Lloris is expected to start in goal report the BBC, who also say Michael Dawson and Gylfi Sigurdsson are in line for starts as Spurs attempt to reach the quarter finals.

Midfielder Jermaine Jenas is expected to extend his loan spell at Nottingham Forest. The move was for an initial month, but it is to be lengthened a further month as he continues his return to fitness, he scored in the club's 4-1 win over Barnsley.
