Liverpool latest: Swansea team news and Transfer Talk

Liverpool have received some good news ahead of the League Cup tie with Swansea City with the return of goalkeeper Alexander Doni. Doni took some time away from football to deal with personal problems and could be included on the bench for the mid-week match.

Former Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier says the club have a very bright future under the reign of Brendan Rodgers. Houllier enjoyed a short but successful spell in charge of the club and says Liverpool are heading in the right direction and playing the right sort of football under their current manager.

Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard and former manager Gerard Houllier have both said that winger Raheem Sterling needs to improve in the final third of the field. Sterling has been one of the stand out stars at the club this season but both individuals have suggested that there is much more to come.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has launched a seething attack at local rivals Everton. Gerrard has described Everton as long ball merchants similar to Stoke City in the way they carry around a certain reputation within English football. He has despite league position, Liverpool are the better team.

Steven Gerrard has continued his attack on local rivals Everton focusing on Phil Neville’s dive during the Merseyside derby. Neville dived to try and win a free kick before he was told off by his manager and then admitting his mistake after the match. Gerrard says he has given his manager a real problem in defending his players.

Former Liverpool player John Aldridge has said that Everton boss David Moyes’ comments before the Merseyside derby fired up Liverpool to play well. Moyes commented in Liverpool focusing on the fact that Luis Suarez is developing a big reputation for diving in the Premier League.

Liverpool target Joel Pohjanpalo has admitted that he hasn’t had any contact from the club over a possible move but is waiting for January to see what happens. The HJC Helsinki star has been linked with Liverpool as a cheap and younger alternative to many other higher profile striker targets.

Liverpool transfer target Lewis Holtby has said he will be targeting a move to either the Premier League or La Liga. Holtby currently plays for Schalke but looks set to see out his contract at the club which means they could be forced into selling him in January. Liverpool have already been linked with the play maker.
