In the aftermath of the game at Stamford Bridge against Manchester United last night Chelsea and the Police have launched an investigation into a fan who allegedly made a racist gesture at a player.
This follows on the heels of the investigation into Mark Clattenburg, who Chelsea have made a formal complaint about alleging the referee used inappropriate language. Clattenburg is believed to have the support of his assistant referees and the fourth official from the game, who were connected to his microphone throughout.
Arsene Wenger has criticised Chelsea for the way they have reacted to Sunday’s match, saying the club should have waited for more proof before going public with the allegations:
My opinion is just that I prefer, when I didn't behave well, that I have an explanation with the referee at the end of the game or on another day, [rather] than going public with little proof,"
Amongst all the off the pitch news, Chelsea won an excellent match with Manchester United last night 5-4 after extra-time, and Gary Cahill has been keen to say that nothing will distract Chelsea on the pitch.
Despite the win Roberto Di Matteo has said today he believes Chelsea are not being treated fairly by officials, with a penalty not being granted in last night’s win following on from the two occasions they have been reduced to nine in the past two season.
I get asked about speculation but I am very happy with him. He scored a goal and had a number of good chances.
‘He’s our striker and as far as I’m concerned he’s part of this team
Sturridge spurned a number of chances last night, but did get on the score sheet during extra time.
In transfer news, Chelsea have been linked with 15 year old Charlton wonderkid Joe Gomez. The defender is reportedly being monitored by a number of top British clubs and is set to be scouted when playing for the England U16 side tonight.
One player who is looking increasingly likely to stay put is Neymar, who has again re-iterated his desire to stay at Santos at least until the World Cup in Brazil in 2014. Chelsea and Manchester City are reportedly vying with Barcelona for the striker.
