Stainthorpe joined Reed Smith’s London office from Freshfields on 22nd October.
Stainthorpe specializes in finance, with a focus on derivatives (including structured equity and hedging interest rate and currency risk) and structured finance (including secured corporate bonds, structured real estate finance and securitisation). His recent transactions include collar financings, margin loans, structured repos, CMBS restructurings and consumer loan securitisations. He has advised widely on the impact of regulatory change on financing transactions.
Reed Smith’s global Structured Finance team was given a significant boost, earlier this year, with the arrival of Tamara Box and new partner, Helena Nathanson, from Berwin Leighton Paisner – along with six associates. Since their arrival, the team has added further members in London and now boasts a core group of fifteen lawyers in London focused on structured finance and debt capital markets within the firm’s Financial Industry Group.
The practice represents arrangers, dealers, issuers, trustees, investors, subordinated lenders, servicers and special servicers on a wide variety of structured products and structured finance restructurings. It works closely with the hedge funds, insolvency, banking, real estate, litigation, financial services and tax teams around Reed Smith’s 23 offices to provide clients with comprehensive solutions in complex markets.
Tamara Box, partner and head of Structured Finance Group, commented: 'We are delighted to add Nick’s specialist skills to our growing derivatives and structured finance offering. His experience of ABCP, CMBS restructurings and structured derivatives will enable us to better serve our globally expanding bank and hedge fund/debt fund client base'.
Nola Beirne, vice chair of Reed Smith’s Financial Industry Group, added: 'We’re continually looking for new talent to augment our global Financial Industry Group. Nick’s expertise will broaden our practice and complement the work of our existing teams, particularly those in our financial services, energy and natural resources and corporate groups, where our clients are increasingly seeking structured derivatives advice. We are delighted to welcome Nick to Reed Smith'.
Stainthorpe commented: 'I have been extremely impressed by Reed Smith’s refreshingly innovative and client focused approach to doing business. It provides a superb platform for me and my clients with a combination of diverse expertise and international reach'.
