I suppose you either find their love affair with social media annoying or endearing, me personally I think it is great to see two young footballers taking time out of their schedule to do something for the club and let the fans see what they are like, not just in official pressers or on the hallow turf, but just in general.
These two have been at it again and the pair in question is Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Emmanuel Frimpong. Recently Frimpong took it upon himself to invade the privacy of The Ox after a friendly borrowing of a phone ended up with the founder of Dench all over Chambo’s Twitter account.
Now the two have competed head-to-head in an ‘Arsenal Christmas Race’. The format is deceptively complicated and involves first shoving on as many items of clothing from the Gunners new winter collection before cycling an AFC mini-trike up to a play-pen-like ball pit.
No game-show would be complete without a cuddly-toy and the two scrambled around looking for the miniature Gunnersaurus before dribbling a football sealed in wrapping paper around Arsenal-themed Christmas trees, unwrapping the ball and taking a shot at talking toys in a coconut-shy themed finale.
When Frimpong ‘hacked’ into Oxlade-Chamberlains phone the former Southampton man declared ‘war’ on him and some revenge was had as he mopped the floor with the midfielder. He first claimed his first piece of revenge by defeating the Ghanaian at FIFA and now it seems the Christmas race has again seen him triumphant over his friend and team-mate.
The club even managed to get BBC legend and former It’s a Knock Out commentator Stuart Hall to do the narration for the event.
Any Arsenal fans in doubt as to how much fun he is having perhaps having an adverse effect on his recovery from injury rest assured that Chambo is chomping at the bit to get back out there and help Arsenal through a difficult period…
