The loss of Nemanja Vidic was a terrible blow for Manchester United to suffer last season, and now it appears Chelsea could be forced to see their captain endure a similar fate.
At least losing the defender for the rest of the campaign is the worst case scenario. It certainly looked a very painful injury yesterday at Stamford Bridge, but how bad is yet unclear.
Terry is undergoing a MRI scan on his knee this morning to ascertain the damage, and find out what his future holds, amid fears it could be ligament damage.
Forget all the taunts and misplaced glee from opposition fans, here is a look at how Chelsea supporters have reacted to the injury, via Twitter:
@amar96toor: If Terry's injury does keep him out for the rest of the season, a defender has to be bought in January as well as Falcao
@nouragha: If Terry's done his ACL he'll be out for the end of the season, hope not. By the looks of the injury we're looking at 4 weeks minimum.
@michramiah: I really hope John Terry is going to be okay. That scream was heartbreaking.
@jerlandson16: ...ouch, really hope that is not an ACL injury for Terry. Hate to say it that at his age...could be the end...
@zola_fan: Looked so rosy before Terry' injury, Defensively secure, oh JT hope its not serious, irreplacaable..
@jon_andrews84: I hate to say this but this could be a season ending ligament injury. JTisn't human though so he will be back in training tomorrow
If Terry is ruled out for the season, how do Chelsea cope with it?
