Here are the key five bowlers for India that England will have to stay on top of.
Zaheer Khan does not have the pace and venom which he once did in his fast bowling. However, what he does have is a great deal of experience in Indian conditions. There is no one better in the side when it comes to use subtle variations to try and outwit a batsman and getting him to do something to give his wicket away. His figures are very good with 291 wickets at an average of just over 30. There is no doubt he will spearhead the Indian pace attack.
Ishant Sharma was the best of the Indian pace bowlers when the sides last met in England. He is tall, quick and able to extract any bounce out of a dull pitch. He is still young at 24-years-old which makes his feat of 133 wickets in 45 Test matches remarkable. He provides a great contrast to Zaheer Khan and he should be determined to improve on his current record of three five wicket hauls.
If England are getting on top of the Indian bowlers then Yadav is someone that MS Dhoni can turn to. Yadav is far quicker than any other Indian bowler in the Test match squad. He may well be thrown the ball to rough up the England batsmen during key little periods of the match. He is still a very raw young fast bowler but he has 28 wickets from eight Test matches which I a respectable start. If there is any movement off the seam then Yadav is the bowler India will look to in order to exploit it.
Ravi Ashwin could be the key bowler for India in this series. He is the main strike spinner and he also has the height to make things very difficult for England. Last winter showed England are very vulnerable to spin bowling and this is a great chance for Ashwin to take advantage. His bowling average is 26 which is very respectable and his slightly unorthodox bowling style means England will have to do a lot of homework in their planning against him.
In terms of experience, no one can get close to Harbhajan Singh. He has played 98 Test matches and taken over 400 wickets making him one of the best spinners in the history of the game. He played a lot of cricket in England during the last domestic season and his record of 25 five wicket hauls shows that he can tear apart a side if his rhythm and mentality is good.
