Falcao’s future is being debated on a daily and weekly basis because all good players attract interest from the biggest club. Chelsea are in for the striker and they need to sign him if they are going to mount a serious push for the Premier League title this season. He would benefit Chelsea in many different ways.
As things stand Fernando Torres is the highest profile striker at the West London club. He has started all 11 games in the Premier League scoring four goals in the process. Falcao’s arrival at Chelsea would not mean the end for Torres, far from it, it would mean the Spaniard playing under slightly less pressure which could allow him to have more of an impact on each game.
Chelsea would be unlikely to drop the current system and formation they are using which would mean that either Falcao or Torres would play as the only striker. This would allow Roberto Di Matteo to switch between the two, unless he decides to go with two front men, which will keep both of them fresh. This would mean that both strikers would have a much greater chance of effectiveness each time they played because burn out would be less of a problem.
It’s also important to look at the way Chelsea are trying to play their football. It is heavily centred around having three midfield players who are all similarly gifted on the ball, feeding a striker who is expected to take and create chances. Falcao is currently in his second season of Spanish football having joined Atletico Madrid from Porto. He is used to the style of football that Chelsea play so they would effectively be buying a ready made striker for what they are trying to do.
Falcao would already be familiar with the tactics and the details of the way Chelsea play their football. Of course the Premier League is a completely different animal to La Liga nut it would mean he can hit the ground running. It would mean that he already knows the sort of runs and movements to make that will allow Oscar, Juan Mata and Eden Hazard to pick him out regularly which would be a total nightmare for any defence.
Goals win league titles and at the moment Chelsea are behind Manchester United both home and away in the Premier League. Falcao has an incredible record of scoring goals which would allow Chelsea to maintain top spot if they can wrestle it back. He has ten goals from ten games so far this season and scored 24 goals from 33 starts and one sub appearance last season. These are the sort of figures that neither Torres or Daniel Sturridge can produce based on their current form.
If Chelsea signed Falcao, regardless of the price, then it would also give everyone at the club a massive lift. It would have the potential to inspire the players to give a little bit more in each game and more importantly it would have the fans believing that the club could rip apart the current dominance of the Manchester teams when it comes to Premier League football.
