Tottenham Hotspur fans were left rueing the sending off of Emmanuel Adebayor in the North London derby this past weekend. Many people predicted that the Togolese striker would have a big impact on proceedings particulary after his impressive foray into the first team picture against another former club Manchester City the previous week. However his tackle on Santi Cazorla was fully warranting of its subsequent red card and his opening goal eventually counted for nothing but a side note in a second consecutive 5-2 defeat at The Emirates for Spurs.
While there were many negatives and positives to take from the fixture, from both sides, one increasingly popular call in the Tottenham Twitterverse is for the young protégé Tom Carroll to be given a break in the starting line-up.
While nobody doubts the passing ability of Tom Huddlestone many a Spurs fan believes it is now Carroll’s chance to get a run in the first team where he can showcase his more mobile technical attributes in full force. Even former Spurs midfielder Rohan Ricketts joined the calls for a Tom Carroll start.
Here are some Tweets from the Tottenham faithful calling for Carroll to be considered a Premier League starter…
Should Tom Carroll start for Tottenham Hotspur?
Tom Carroll has to start on Thursday. No two ways about it! Carroll > Hudd

Picking Gallas and Huddlestone were very poor choices. AVB has to take the blame for that. Dawson and Tom Carroll much better alternatives.

One thing learned from today is the boy is ready. Tom Carroll should start the next game. With Adebayor out there is room for him.
