Didier Drogba has applied to FIFA for special permission to move on loan to Chelsea, despite being outside of the transfer window.
Drogba wants to get match-fit before the African Nations Cup, and is hoping FIFA will grant him special dispensation for such a move.
The switch would also have to be sanctioned by the Premier League.
Drogba is currently with Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua, where he signed in the summer, and has scored 8 times in 11 games for the club.
The Chinese Super League season begins in March and runs through the calendar year, breaking over Winter like the MLS, and the Ivorian is hoping to replicate Thierry Henry's planned comeback to Arsenal.
Yet his application to FIFA indicates he is hoping to make the move sooner rather than later.
It certainly adds an intriguing piece of news to a most unwelcome 24 hours for Chelsea fans, who woke up this morning to the news Roberto di Matteo has been sacked as manager following their defeat to Juventus last night.
Would this be a wise move? Could it happen? What do you think?
