Here's a run-down of the five best games you can get at the moment.

New Star Soccer

Right now, this has to be the most enjoyable football game available. You play through a career as a footballer, working your way up from the lower leagues to international glory. The gameplay is incredibly addictive, as you are given opportunities in matches to pass, shoot, and intercept, with your decisions and success rate impacting not only on the result, but how much your teammates and fans rate you. Off the pitch you need to train your player up and live the lifestyle of a professional footballer. With simple gameplay and even simpler graphics, the game is perfect for your phone, and you'll likely end up spending many hours playing it.

FIFA 13

The latest mobile version of the franchise is undoubtedly the best version, and there is no more realistic football game you can play. It's a little pricy, but with many of the features of the popular console version, and an excellent match engine, you can't do better than FIFA for pure realism on the go.

Flick Kick Football

Dispensing with every aspect of football but goals, Flick Kick Football is as simple as it gets. You're given a ball, a goal and a couple of defenders to curl your shot round by flicking (well, swiping) the screen. The aim is simply to keep scoring as the game makes it harder by adding in defenders or moving you further from the goal. The game is simultaneously fantastically fun and incredibly infuriating; with the annoyance of having to start again if you miss a few shots balanced out by the repeated satisfaction of curling beauties into the top corner.

Super Soccer Champs

For all the realism available in modern football games, there are plenty of people who hanker for the great old days of Sensible Soccer, and Super Soccer Champs is just about the closest thing available on your phone. With the birds-eye view of the game, and hit and hope gameplay of Sensi, this is a wonderfully fun alternative to FIFA.

Fluid Football

Combining elements from New Star Soccer and Flick Kick Football, Fluid Football is another excellent game for your phone. Each situation gives a tactical battle you have to overcome by sending your players on runs and passing your way round the defence until you manoeuvre a shooting opportunity. When you have that chance, you are given a Flick Kick style chance to find the net. It may be a little easy to score from distance - or even from a corner - but the real satisfaction will come from finding the perfect pass to the player you have sent on a run through the defence, before slotting in past the keeper.
