Iago Aspas may not be a name that resonates with every football fan worldwide however the Celta Vigo forward is arguably the most under-rated player in La Liga. Along with Javi Fuego and Oscar Gonzalez he is finally starting to get the recognition he deserves; but only because he is forcing people to take notice.
Last weekend once again he turned talisman as he smashed home a late winner to defeat Real Zaragoza in La Liga grabbing his sixth goal in 12 appearances this season. Last year he was a goal menace in Segunda Division bagging 25 goals in 37 appearances in all competitions and one of the biggest questions surrounding Celta this season was whether he could translate that sort of form in the top flight of Spanish football. At the moment he certainly has but while the likes of Adrian Lopez, Falcao, Fernando Llorente and more recently Benat Exteberria are grabbing all the transfer columns interest in Iago seems non-existent.
While this will come as music to the years for any Los Celestes fans reading it beggars belief when you consider just how effective this player is that none of the teams in the Premier League have been linked with the forward.
As Bleacher Report’s Allan Jiang put it:
‘’ [Iago] Aspas has to carry Celta Vigo whereas Chelsea are carrying [Fernando] Torres.’’
Recently the likes of Santi Cazorla, Michu, Ivan Ramis and Chico Flores have made the move to the Premier League with comparative success so it is not a market unknown to Premier League operators. He would be a perfect addition to any team especially Liverpool or Arsenal who would find a place for him in their team with relative ease.
He brings so much more than simply goals as well. He also possesses blistering pace not to mention that oh so inherited technical prowess that appears increasingly innate to Spanish footballers and could operate anywhere across the front line. His ability transcends goalscorer and delves into the world of goal creator with his incisive passing another major attribute.
When Celta played Barcelona at the Nou Camp earlier this season Aspas was the star performer for the away side as he constantly pulled the defence across the pitch and tested Victor Valdes at every given opportunity. While not the big signing that Arsenal fans may crave at 25-years-old he really could be a gem of a buy for Wenger.
Eventually someone will take a risk on the talented forward; who has recently signed a contract extension which might explain the lack of transfer talk; and Arsenal or Liverpool would not want to be left kicking themselves if Aspas goes on to achieve what many regular commentators of La Liga believe he will.
Would you like Arsenal or Liverpool to take a look at this Celta Vigo striker?
