In the first head to head, it was a battle of the ‘passing’ teams, and Swansea came out on top. No sign of 'second season syndrome' here. The Gunners, of course, had plenty of possession and dominant spells, but poor execution and lack of ideas in the final third cost them the game. Gervinho's lackluster performance only added to their woes.
Wenger, however, will no doubt regard the cup match as an opportunity for quick revenge, and will be telling his players that they have a chance to get the fans back on-side.
For Swansea, however, the match will hold no fear. Once again we will be playing without any pressure (as surely Arsenal will remain favourites), will be playing on home soil, and will also have the mental advantage of Saturday’s win.
