A player was killed by a splinter while playing an indoor match in Brazil. The player was making a tackle on a hard wooden floor in a game in 2010 and the floor cracked with the splinter piercing the player’s intestine.
Referee Opens Fire
A referee shot dead a former Marseille coach and injured two other players when he thought he was under threat after handing out a yellow card. Michael Sizani and his players approached the referee during a match against the Mighty Elevens in the Eastern Cape district of South Africa. The referee produced a pistol and shot Sizani with the same bullet injuring Mighty Elevens coach Mbuzeli Ziquala and one of his players.
Two players broke their legs playing for Chester against Aldershot Town in a fourth division league match in 1966. The surname of both players was Jones, they both broke the same leg, they were both carried off of the pitch and they both ended up in the same hospital ward.
Injured by an Egg
Rangers defender Kirk Broadfoot had to be treated for facial injuries in 2009 after his microwave exploded as he was poaching an egg. The egg scalded him quite literally leaving him with egg on his face.
Former Reading striker Leroy Lita woke up and thought he’d have a nice long morning stretch. He snapped a muscle in the process which meant he had to have a long spell in the treatment room.
