Chelsea have been rocked by the news that midfielder Oriol Romeu has been ruled out for six months after surgery on his injured knee. The midfielder suffered a rupture in his cruciate ligament in the match against Sunderland at the weekend, and had not travelled with his teammates to Japan. Teenager George Saville has taken Romeu’s place in the squad for the Club World Cup.
Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola has said he hopes to manage his former club someday. Zola is currently in charge at Championship club Watford, and thinks the experience he is gaining will stand him in good stead to manage at a top club at some point, but he does not believe he is ready yet. Zola has previously managed in the Premiership at West Ham, but was fired in 2010.
Kevin de Bruyne is already looking forward to challenging for a place in the side when he returns to Chelsea in the summer. However, the 21 year old midfielder, who has been impressing whilst on loan at Werder Bremen, is aware of the fierce competition for places at Chelsea.
Lazar Markovic’s agent Fali Ramadani has denied that the striker will leave Partizan Belgrade for Chelsea in January. There had been reports that a deal to take the Serbian wonder kid to the Blues had been agreed, but Partizan and the player denied this, and Ramadani has now said that the 18 year old will be going nowhere next month.
Santos coach Muricy Ramalho has urged his star player Neymar to opt for Barcelona when he leaves Brazil, but only after the World Cup in 2014. Barcelona are current favourites to sign the player, with rumours they have already paid part of the transfer fee, but Chelsea came incredibly close to signing Neymar in 2011 and are reportedly still interested in a transfer.
In other transfer news, Chelsea are reportedly one of a number of Premier League clubs keeping tabs on Sampdoria midfielder Pedro Obiang. Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City are also rumoured to be looking at the 20 year old.
Brazlian midfielder Oscar has said he was initially surprised by the pace of football in the Premier League, but that he feels he has adapted well. Oscar also said that he is pleased at how much first team football he has been getting this season, having featured regularly since his brace against Juventus.
