Sometimes football teams and players use Twitter as a great outlet to get in touch with football fans and a wider audience on a slightly more personal level. These Q and A sessions have become quite popular over the years and usually go off without a hitch. The likes of Michael Owen have struggled in the past with fans taking it as an opportunity for endless banter to ensue.
Recently Chelsea midfielder Oriol Romeu did conduct a very well received one while Rio Ferdinand threw an impromptu one earlier in the week to help fend off the boredom of waiting on a train.
However Tottenham Hotspur and Gareth Bale have definitely suffered the most for this ideal. Bale opened up a question and answer session under the tag #spursqanda on Wednesday which unfortunately appeared to become hijacked by Arsenal fans and general mock merchants from the off.
Not much seemed to be off-limits. To his potential resemblance to our more primal cousins, interrogation on any cosmetic work done over the summer and of course the subject of diving certainly came up more than once.
Some even saw it as a great opportunity to simply lay into whoever they want…
Here is a collection of Tweets…
