Radamel Falcao has become the envy of nearly every club in world football with the financial clout to afford him. Recently teams such as Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and even Arsenal have all been linked with a move for the Colombian sensation.
The speculation was already palpable before he single-handedly decimated Deportivo La Coruna scoring five goals in a magnificent individual performance. It was the UEFA Super Cup that truly highlighted his talent. His strike play decimated Chelsea’s defence and he took his hat-trick with predictable aplomb.
On this occasion however I stop well short of saying he ‘single-handedly’ won them the fixture as he was ably supported by a stellar cast and the outstanding player in a supporting role would have to go to Arda Turan.
The Turkish international demonstrated a tremendous ability to be at the pinnacle of every single counter-attack that Los Colchoneros flew into in Monaco and his praises were sung by the studio guests that night; quick to point out his importance to Atletico Madrid’s stunning victory.
This week his agent confirmed the 25-year-olds intention to leave the club this summer as he looks to live a different experience. As for his destination the only thing that is clear is his desire to leave La Liga and experience a different football landscape:
"Atletico know what our intention is. If all goes well, Arda will leave the Madrid club at the end of this season."
With the Spanish league considered one of the best in Europe it is a difficult guessing game as the only leagues parallel or near at least are the Bundesliga, Serie A and of course the Premier League. While of course there is also the option of a megabucks move to PSG the main rumour doing the rounds at the moment links him with a move to Liverpool.
He would certainly fit in well with the Brendan Rodgers system. An excellent passer of the ball he would also benefit from the potency of Rodgers midfield when it comes to regaining possession. His breakaway style of play will work brilliantly off of Joe Allen’s displays.
Whether Nuri Sahin, an international team-mate, would be giving rave reviews of life on Merseyside is up for debate after his indifferent spell at Anfield so far. It would be a great signing for any of the Premier Leagues top clubs and his apparent availability should be alerting many a suitor.
Would you want your side to sign Arda Turan?
